Former Major League player Andruw Jones has been appointed as the manager of the Netherlands national team for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, as announced this Tuesday.
It is a great honor to lead the Kingdom of the Netherlands team in the World Baseball Classic. I have worn the uniform as a player and coach, and now that I am entrusted with leading the team it is a great honor. I can’t wait to put together a great team with my coaching staff.
Andruw Jones
Jones, who was a gardener and participated in five All-Star Games during his 17 seasons in MLB, competed as a player for the Netherlands in 2006 and 2013. In addition, he served as a bench coach in 2017 and 2023.
The Netherlands will begin its participation in Group D in Miami, along with the Dominican Republic, Israel, and Nicaragua, when the World Baseball Classic begins next March.
