After a month in Triple-A Syracuse, former star prospect Francisco Álvarez is ready to return to the New York Mets, according to a report from The Athletic.

The Mets plan to reinstate the team’s 23-year-old catcher from Triple-A before their Monday game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Álvarez was sent to the minors by New York after the June 21st game. At the time of his demotion, he was batting .236 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 35 games. As a rookie in 2023, Álvarez hit 25 home runs and batted .209 in 123 games.

However, during the last month, Álvarez has shown notable improvements. Since joining Syracuse, he batted .299 with 11 home runs. This included a home run on Sunday, his third in three days and seventh in 19 at-bats.

Furthermore, according to the report, Álvarez’s defense and framing, which ranked in the bottom 9 percent of MLB, according to Baseball Savant, received excellent reviews from coaches and pitchers in Syracuse.

Álvarez was considered the number 1 prospect in 2022, but wrist and hand injuries hampered him after his rookie season. Since debuting with the Mets in 2022, Álvarez has batted .223 with 40 home runs and 122 RBIs in 263 games.

The Mets stumbled out of the All-Star break, suffering consecutive home losses to the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend. They avoided the series sweep on Sunday, escaping with a 3-2 victory.
