Tylor Megill Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill underwent Tommy John surgery, according to manager Carlos Mendoza this Tuesday. The surgical intervention took place on Monday in Los Angeles, and Megill is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season.

One feels bad for the player. It will be a while before he returns to the mound. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Megill, 30, hasn’t pitched for the Mets since June 14, when he allowed six runs in 3⅔ innings against Tampa Bay. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on June 17 due to an elbow sprain and transferred to the 60-day injured list on July 8. In 14 starts for the Mets, Megill went 5-5 with a 3.95 ERA. He was sent on a rehab assignment in August and made six appearances across two levels before being shut down due to a new elbow strain. Megill has spent his entire career in the Mets organization since being selected in the eighth round in 2018. He has five years of experience in the Major Leagues and has two seasons of arbitration eligibility remaining. Megill’s absence weakens a rotation that ranked fourth-best with a 3.38 ERA before the All-Star break, but has fallen to 24th with a 5.10 ERA after the break.

Obviously, we will miss him, when we talk about depth. It is regrettable, but our job now is for him to return to the field as soon as possible.

The Mets began Tuesday’s game against the Cubs tied with the Reds for the final wild card spot in the National League.
