Nick Ahmed Announces Retirement from Professional Baseball
The two-time Gold Glove winner, Nick Ahmed, has announced his retirement from professional baseball this Thursday. Ahmed, 35 years old, had an outstanding career in sports, leaving his mark on several MLB teams. His major league career spanned ten seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks. In the 2024 season, Ahmed played for the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and, finally, the Texas Rangers, where he participated in five games. The player was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 2011 MLB draft, coming from the University of Connecticut.“To all the organizations I played for… Atlanta, thank you for selecting me! Arizona… for calling me up to the big leagues and believing in me for 10 seasons! SF, LA, SD and TEX… thank you for giving me the opportunity to keep doing what I loved!” added Ahmed. Ahmed, recognized for his defensive excellence, won the Gold Glove in 2018 and 2019 playing as a shortstop. In his 964 career games, he batted .233 with 72 home runs and 339 RBIs. “I will always love baseball,” he added. “I am excited for my next chapter and the opportunity to give my best to this game that we all love!”“For as long as I can remember, all I wanted was to play baseball,” Ahmed wrote on his social media. “I was able to live my childhood dream and play for a long time! After 15 professional seasons and over a decade in the major leagues, I am officially hanging up my spikes and retiring from playing.”
