Arpichaya Yubol leads the LPGA Shanghai tournament
SHANGHAI – Arpichaya Yubol, with an outstanding bogey-free round, achieved an impressive 64 strokes (-8) this Thursday, thus securing the first place in the LPGA tournament in Shanghai. The Thai golfer, known for her best round of 61 strokes, demonstrated her skill with four birdies in both the first nine holes and the second nine, on the demanding Qizhong Garden golf course. Minjee Lee, who conquered the Women’s PGA Championship in June, placing third in the major titles, is one stroke away, sharing position with Jenny Shin, Jenny Bae, Jeeno Thitikul, and Ina Yoon, all with 65 strokes.Ashleigh Buhai, champion of the 2022 Women’s British Open, signed a card of 68 strokes. For her part, the defending champion, Ruoning Yin, completed the day with 71 strokes. The Shanghai event marks the beginning of a series of five tournaments in Asia, which will include two weeks in South Korea, with the International Crown team event, and stops in Malaysia and Japan. Last week, Youmin Hwang continued the winning streak on the LPGA Tour, where each of the 25 official tournaments of the year has had a different winner. Hwang was the sixth South Korean player to win on the tour this year.“I feel like, given the conditions of the greens, I managed to make, what?, seven birdies, so it was a good day for me,” Lee commented on her performance.
