Arpichaya Yubol leads the Shanghai tournament with an outstanding round

SHANGHAI – Thai golfer Arpichaya Yubol positioned herself at the top of the LPGA Shanghai tournament after an impressive first round. Yubol completed the course without bogeys, achieving a score of 8 under par, with a card of 64 strokes. The golfer, whose personal best is 61 strokes, achieved four birdies in both the first nine holes and the second nine, demonstrating consistent and precise play at the Qizhong Garden Golf Club. Minjee Lee, winner of the Women’s PGA Championship in June, is one stroke behind Yubol, part of a group of five players who scored 65. This group also includes Jenny Shin, Jenny Bae, Jeeno Thitikul, and Ina Yoon.

Lee commented that, despite the difficult conditions of the greens at Qizhong, she managed to adapt and play in the best possible way with her “broomstick” style putter.

Ashleigh Buhai, champion of the 2022 Women’s British Open, finished the round with 68 strokes, while defending champion Ruoning Yin recorded 71 strokes. The event in Shanghai marks the beginning of a series of five tournaments in Asia, which will include two weeks in South Korea, with the International Crown team event, and tournaments in Malaysia and Japan. Last week, Youmin Hwang extended the streak of different winners in each of the 25 official LPGA Tour tournaments this year. Hwang was the sixth South Korean player to win a tour tournament this year.
