Yamashita maintains the lead at the Women’s British Open, but the pressure increases

Porthcawl, Wales – Miyu Yamashita had a tough day on the course, struggling off the tee and on the greens, leading to a round of 74 strokes (+2) at the Women’s British Open. Despite this, she managed to hold onto the lead, although now with only a one-stroke advantage over A Lim Kim. Yamashita, who began the third round with a three-stroke lead, failed to hit a single fairway in the last 11 holes, but still remained on top at Royal Porthcawl. On the 17th hole, she was close to losing the lead, but she managed a great putt from the bunker, saving par. Then, she missed a birdie on the final hole, which left her with a total of 9 under par (207).

Today I will analyze what went wrong and what went right to improve tomorrow.

Miyu Yamashita
A Lim Kim had an outstanding performance, with a round of 67 strokes (-5). She had the opportunity to tie for the lead, but missed a putt on the 18th hole. Now, Kim is in the final group alongside Yamashita, seeking her second major after winning the U.S. Women’s Open in 2020.

I don’t focus on the leader, but on my process and each shot.

The competition is open, with several players with chances in the final round, including Charley Hull, who achieved a round of 66 strokes and got within three strokes of the leader.

I like to chase, it’s more fun.

Andrea Lee, with a round of 67 strokes, is two strokes behind the leader. Megan Khang (68), Rio Takeda (74), and Minami Katsu, with a 65 that tied the best score of the tournament, are also in the running.

Anyone who is within five strokes has a chance.

The fight for the title is exciting, with Yamashita and Takeda as the main contenders. Yamashita struggled with the “putting” and his tee game, but managed to recover with some important “birdies”. Takeda also had problems, with several “bogeys” in his round. Lottie Woad, the rising star, finished six strokes behind the leader. Nelly Korda, the world number one, is nine strokes off the top and could end the major season without titles. The LPGA Tour could continue its historic streak without multiple winners so far this season, as only Kim and Takeda, from the top ten in the standings, have won this year.
