Miyu Yamashita Crowned at the Women’s Open Championship

Porthcawl, Wales – Japanese golfer Miyu Yamashita secured her first major title this Sunday, withstanding pressure from Charley Hull to secure victory at the Women’s Open Championship.

Yamashita finished with a round of 70 strokes, two under par, which gave her a two-stroke lead. She stood out for her impressive putts for par on the last nine holes at Royal Porthcawl, especially crucial when Hull got within one stroke of the leader.

Hull, who began the final round three strokes behind, managed to get closer with a birdie on the 14th hole. However, a mistake on the 16th hole, followed by a bogey on the 17th, relegated her to a tie for second place with Minami Katsu, also from Japan.

This triumph marks the fourth victory by Japanese players in the last nine women’s major golf tournaments, a remarkable achievement that consolidates the growing influence of Japanese golf on the world stage.

Mao Saigo had already won the first major of the year at the Chevron Championship.
