The U.S. Ryder Cup team captain, Keegan Bradley, has announced Gary Woodland as the fifth and final vice-captain for this year’s tournament. The event will take place at Bethpage Black, New York, where the team will seek to regain the trophy from Europe.
Woodland, 41, the 2019 U.S. Open winner, joins Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker on Bradley’s team.
Bradley highlighted Woodland’s experience on golf’s most important stages, as a major champion who still competes at a high level. This will be Woodland’s first participation in the Ryder Cup as vice-captain. Previously, he represented the United States in the 2019 Presidents Cup in Australia, where he contributed 1.5 points to the American team’s victory. In February, Woodland was awarded the PGA Tour Courage Award, recognizing his return to full-time competition after brain surgery in 2023. “Keegan’s passion for this event is contagious and I am delighted to be a part of it,” commented Woodland. Woodland expressed his commitment to support Bradley and the team, with the goal of reaching Bethpage in optimal condition. The Ryder Cup is scheduled to be held from September 26 to 28.“I have an incredible amount of respect and admiration for Gary and everything he has achieved in this game,” Bradley said.
