In the FM Championship, Miranda Wang positioned herself at TPC Boston with a three-stroke lead for the second consecutive day. The Chinese golfer demonstrated an exceptional ability to recover, overcoming an initial three-stroke deficit with brilliant putting that led her to a 65, seven under par. Wang is seeking her first LPGA victory. The player needed only 24 putts on a course softened by the rain, and apparently benefited from playing only 18 holes. Some of her competitors faced longer days due to the storms that interrupted play the day before. Wang closed his bogey-free round with a birdie on the 18th hole, completing a flawless round that gave him a three-stroke lead over Sei Young Kim (71) and Rose Zhang (67). Wang accumulated a total of 18 under par, with a score of 198.

This is the place where all the players want to be, so it’s special to reach the final round as the solo leader. This is what we try to do every week, so I’m happy to have done my job really well. I hope to keep doing what I did today.

Kim, for her part, had an uneven performance, with a second round of 65 that gave her an initial three-stroke lead. However, her lead quickly vanished. Wang took the lead with a birdie on the sixth hole, and demonstrated her determination on the next hole, achieving a birdie despite a wayward initial shot. Wang also made a 40-foot birdie on the 14th hole and finished the day with a streak of 27 consecutive holes without bogeys. The key for Wang was his performance in the second half of Thursday, where he got eight birdies for a 29 on the first nine holes, demonstrating his comfort on the greens.

Since I had a very good second half in the first round, my putting has been working. I was getting the speed and line very well and made super long putts today on the 7th hole, and that gave me even more confidence. I know I’m doing well on these greens, so when I make putts I have more confidence and comfort.

Zhang, who won her first LPGA event two years ago, hasn’t achieved a top 10 against a full field this year, as she divides her time between playing and finishing her studies at Stanford. Zhang expressed her gratitude for being in contention. Zhang had to play 32 holes, including 14 in the morning and then four birdies in five holes, to keep pace with Wang. The golfer commented that she had focused on eating, drinking water, and consuming electrolytes. Jeeno Thitikul (65) and Andrea Lee (66) are four strokes away. Nelly Korda’s quest for her first LPGA victory this year will have to wait, as she is nine strokes behind. Wang, a rookie on the LPGA, will look to extend a remarkable streak on the circuit, where 22 tournaments have been won by different players.
