Miranda Wang Captures Her First LPGA Title at an Exciting FM Championship

In an emotional Sunday at the FM Championship, Miranda Wang demonstrated her composure by overcoming the number one in women’s golf and securing her first LPGA title. With a stellar performance in the last three holes, Wang achieved a 70 (-2) and a one-stroke victory over Jeeno Thitikul. Wang, who becomes the seventh rookie to win this year on the LPGA, extended a remarkable streak of multiple winners throughout the first 23 tournaments of the season.

I hope this is the first of many and I will keep working hard. This is a dream come true.

Thitikul, who had snatched the number one spot from Nelly Korda three weeks ago, seemed ready to break the streak and thwart Wang’s aspirations. The Thai player approached the 9th hole with a birdie that put her at the top of the leaderboard. However, Wang was not intimidated, and although he experienced some nerves, he demonstrated his determination in crucial moments. Thitikul, for his part, made mistakes that cost him the victory. In the 17th hole, Thitikul had problems with her shot, which led to a bogey. Wang, for her part, remained firm, achieving a key birdie on the 17th hole to regain the lead. In the final hole, Thitikul came up short, while Wang, with two putts, secured par and finished with a total of 20 under par, 268. Rose Zhang, who played in the final group with Wang, celebrated her playing partner’s victory, who became the eleventh first-time winner on the LPGA this year. Wang set the stage for his triumph on Thursday, with eight birdies in the first nine holes. His confidence with the putter grew, and he entered the final round with a three-stroke lead. Sei Young Kim finished in third place, three strokes behind the winner. Andrea Lee also signed a 70 and finished one stroke further back. Zhang had to settle for a 72, tying for fifth place with Jin Hee Im, who had a bogey-free 62. The LPGA has 24 winners in 23 tournaments before heading to Cincinnati for the Kroger Queen City Championship. Korda, winner of seven titles last year, closed with a 75 and tied for 35th place, 14 strokes behind Wang.
