MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Carson Young made an impressive eagle from 30 yards on the 15th hole, a par 5, and signed a card of 64 strokes, 7 under par, in rainy conditions this Saturday. This allowed him to take the lead in the third round of the Myrtle Beach Classic, which is played in his home state.
Young, 30, and a former Clemson player, totaled 200 strokes, 13 under par, at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
It’s been great having my family here and a lot of support from friends. I hear a lot of ‘Go Tigers!’ out there. It’s great to be here in my home state playing golf. It feels like the old days.

Harry Higgs finished one stroke back after a round of 68.
Excited to play under par. I’m not very good in the rain.

The winner of the PGA Tour event, which is held simultaneously with a major event at the Truist Championship this week, will earn a spot in the PGA Championship if they are not already eligible.
Young, who has yet to win on the PGA Tour, also birdied the 13th hole, a par 5, and the 16th, a par 4, completing four holes with a score of 4 under par.
Honestly, it was a lot of fun out there, even with the rain, because I was holing putts and making some chip shots. I played some really solid golf. Nothing too flashy. But it was really good golf.
