Lexi Thompson Seeks Victory at the Meijer LPGA Classic
BELMONT, Mich. – Lexi Thompson birdied two of the last three holes on Saturday at the Meijer LPGA Classic, allowing her to share the lead of the third round with five other golfers. Thompson is seeking her first victory in just over six years.
Thompson completed the round with a score of 68 strokes, four under par, recovering with birdies on holes 16 and 18 after sending his ball into the water and making a bogey on the 14th hole, a par 5. He is in contention at Blythefield Country Club, a year after losing in a playoff against Lilia Vu on this course.
With a total of 205 strokes, eleven under par, Thompson shares the lead with Nanna Koerstz Madsen (68), Madelene Sagstrom (67), Sofia Garcia (68), Hye-Jin Choi (69), and Carlota Ciganda (69).
Thompson is participating in her sixth competition of the season with a part-time tour program and also plans to play next week at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in Frisco, Texas.
The 30-year-old golfer from Florida won her last LPGA Tour title, number 11, in early June 2019 at the ShopRite LPGA Classic.
Koerstz Madsen bogeyed the last two holes, losing a two-stroke lead, while Garcia led at 13-under after 12 holes but then bogeyed the next three. Choi missed a 5-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole in the final group.
Sagstrom, winner of the T-Mobile Match Play in Las Vegas in April, had an eagle-birdie-eagle streak on holes 4-6.
Karis Davidson stood at nine under par after a round of 71 strokes. Megan Khang (69) was one stroke behind, along with Chanettee Wannasaen (69), Bronte Law (71), and Celine Boutier (72).
