Jeeno Thitikul Shines at the CME Group Tour Championship
Thai golfer Jeeno Thitikul demonstrated her dominance on the course this Friday, with a performance that solidifies her as the number one in women’s golf. With an impressive round, Thitikul achieved nine error-free birdies, finishing with a 63, which gives her a three-stroke lead in the CME Group Tour Championship. This outstanding performance brings her closer to a $4 million prize and recognition as LPGA Player of the Year. Nelly Korda, who was displaced by Thitikul in the world ranking at the beginning of this year, achieved a 64, positioning herself at the top of the leaderboard until Thitikul began her exceptional journey. Thitikul, the defending champion, is at a total of 14 under par, demonstrating her skill and consistency in the tournament.Somi Lee, who started the final event of the LPGA season with a 64, had a bogey on the first hole and failed to maintain the pace. With two birdies in the last five holes, she achieved a 70, finishing four strokes behind the leader, as did Nasa Hataoka (67). During the round, Sei Young Kim tried to keep pace with Thitikul, achieving six birdies in the last nine holes and recording a 66. Thitikul and Yamashita are the only players with multiple victories this year. Korda, who has yet to secure a victory this year after a seven-title season in 2024, got off to a slow start at the Tour Championship. However, in the second round, he managed several birdie putts from a distance of 10 to 15 feet. Seven players are five strokes behind Thitikul, including Brooke Henderson and Minjee Lee. The winner will take home $4 million, the highest prize in women’s golf. Thitikul achieved 22 under par last year and won by a single stroke. In the previous tournament, Amy Yang set a record with 27 under par.“Better than yesterday, for sure,” Thitikul commented with a smile. “I have no complaints, no bogeys and nine birdies. I’ll take it.”
