Sepp Straka Withdraws from BMW Championship Due to Family Matters

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Golfer Sepp Straka has announced his withdrawal from the BMW Championship due to a private family matter. However, he is expected to participate in the Tour Championship next week.

Butler Melnyk, Straka’s representative, did not disclose details about the nature of the family matter, requesting privacy in a statement.

Straka’s absence reduces the BMW Championship field at Caves Valley to 49 players. Despite his withdrawal, the situation does not affect Straka in terms of the FedEx Cup, as he is in fifth position, far from the possibility of winning the $5 million prize intended for the leader in the standings. Scottie Scheffler has already secured that position.

The 30 players who qualify for the Tour Championship will start from scratch in their quest for the FedEx Cup title and the $10 million bonus.

Straka is in sixth place in the Ryder Cup standings for Europe. He could be displaced from the top six by Shane Lowry or Ludvig Åberg this week. The top six players qualify for the European team after the Tour Championship and the British Masters. Regardless of this, Straka is likely to be selected. He is currently ranked number 10 in the world ranking.
