Scottie Scheffler Withdraws from the Houston Open

The world’s number one golfer, Scottie Scheffler, has announced his withdrawal from the Houston Open, a tournament in which his participation was already uncertain due to the imminent arrival of his second child.

Scheffler, who has been runner-up at the Houston Open on three occasions, including the last two years, where he used it as final preparation before the Masters, confirmed that his absence is not due to any injury.

Matt Kuchar will take his place in the event.

Scheffler’s wife, Meredith, gave birth to their son Bennett on May 8, 2024, a week before the PGA Championship.

Scheffler, winner of the PGA Championship and the British Open last year, started 2026 with a victory at the American Express. His streak of 18 consecutive top-10 finishes, which began at last year’s Houston Open, ended at the Genesis Invitational, where he tied for 12th place.

The last Scheffler tournament was the Players Championship, where he tied for 22nd place.

Last year, Scheffler tied for second at the Houston Open, matching his own course record with a 62 (-8) in the second round, finishing one stroke behind Min Woo Lee.

Scheffler was the clear favorite to win the tournament before his withdrawal.
