Adam Schenk Secures His First PGA Tour Victory in Bermuda
In a day marked by strong winds, Adam Schenk achieved his first victory on the PGA Tour at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. After 243 attempts, Schenk closed the tournament with a round of 71 strokes, securing the triumph by one stroke difference. Schenk, who was in 134th position in the FedEx Cup, was two tournaments away from having to return to qualifying school. However, he showed his mettle by facing extremely difficult conditions, achieving a birdie and four crucial par saves. The last par save was particularly challenging. After his approach on the 18th hole went slightly past the green, Schenk opted to use the putter from the fringe. The wind pushed the ball, but he managed to sink the putt to secure the victory. This victory grants Schenk a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour, which is crucial at a time when full status is vital. Only the top 100 in the FedEx Cup obtain full status for the 2026 events. Takumi Kanaya, who played with Schenk in the final group, had the opportunity to tie, but a missed putt relegated him to 99th position in the FedEx Cup. Chandler Phillips, with a second-place finish, his best result on the PGA Tour, climbed to 92nd place, securing his card for the circuit. Schenk overcame a difficult period this summer, with six consecutive missed cuts. He made adjustments to his game, including a change in his putting technique, and finally earned his deserved triumph. The victory secures him a place in at least one major event with a purse of $20 million next year, in addition to the PGA Championship and The Players Championship. The tournament was characterized by strong winds, which forced the tee times to be brought forward. Schenk demonstrated his skill by sinking crucial putts from distances of up to 8 feet and making par saves in complicated situations. Despite a missed birdie putt on the 17th hole, Schenk managed to stay calm and secure the final par, sealing his historic victory.I’ve putted to win on the PGA Tour many times on my farm. Seeing one go in is something I’ll never forget.
Adam Schenk
I knew I could win. It’s just a matter of executing every shot and handling every situation I put myself in. I can’t believe it’s over. It seems like the longest day ever.
