Scottie Scheffler, the Historical Favorite at the U.S. Open 2025
A high-stakes playing field and an extremely challenging course have not deterred bookmakers from designating Scottie Scheffler as the top favorite for the 125th U.S. Open. Scheffler is listed at +275 to win the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club. This makes him the most prominent favorite for any men’s golf major since Tiger Woods held odds of +225 or less in every major in 2009, although he failed to win any of those tournaments. Scheffler surpasses his own best mark in a major, with odds of +325 before the 2024 U.S. Open, where he ultimately tied for 41st place. Low odds and the irregular history for the big favorites haven’t deterred the betting public: More than 50% of the betting volume and a significant 22.6% of the bets back Scheffler to win at Oakmont. In the U.S. Open market, Scheffler started with odds of +500 and steadily decreased due to his excellent performance in the first half of 2025, reaching +400 after his victory at the PGA Championship and +300 after his triumph at the Memorial Tournament. Despite the strong support, Scheffler’s very low odds mean it’s not a terrible scenario for bookmakers if he takes the third leg of his Grand Slam. In addition to Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, who is the second favorite with odds of +750, is also attracting significant public support across the market, receiving more than 15% of the betting volume at several major bookmakers. The defending U.S. Open champion has seen his odds nearly halved from his starting point of +1400.Scheffler’s price at the beginning of the tournament week reflects his consistent performances, his ability to excel in the majors, and the great betting interest he generates tournament after tournament, regardless of how much of a favorite he is.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy’s odds have increased enormously due to his poor form: After winning the Masters in April, the 36-year-old player had odds of +550 to win the U.S. Open, but fell to +1150 after missing the cut at the Canadian Open and is currently at +1400.
The only other golfers attracting any attention in the betting market are Jon Rahm (+1200), Ludvig Åberg (+2200), Collin Morikawa (+2500), Shane Lowry (+3300), and Harris English (+8000). Bookmakers attribute part of the attraction towards the favorites to the reported difficulty of Oakmont, which produced winning results of -4 and +5 the last two times the U.S. Open was played there.A U.S. Open at Oakmont is one of the toughest tests these players will face. BetMGM customers are leaning towards proven quality on the course.
