Schauffele, the golfer who prefers simplicity: Trophies aside

Golfer Xander Schauffele, upon returning to Royal Portrush to defend his title at the Open Championship, was faced with the need to return the Claret Jug. However, the situation is not as complicated as it seems, as the athlete does not have a specific place to keep his trophies. Schauffele has eight career victories on the PGA Tour, including the Open Championship, the PGA Championship, and the Tour Championship. In addition, he has the Olympic gold medal obtained in Tokyo in 2021. Given such success, the question is, where does he keep all these achievements? The answer is simple: not in his own house. According to Schauffele himself, his parents are the ones who keep all his trophies, “probably in a bank vault.” His parents have a house in San Diego and his father is building a property in Kauai, where they currently reside. What about the gold medal?

“Actually, I have no idea where it is, to be completely honest,” confessed Schauffele.

This attitude is not surprising, considering Schauffele and his wife’s preference for a simple lifestyle. Although he celebrates a bit more than other prominent golfers, his main focus, like that of many professionals, is to concentrate on the next tournament.

“What am I going to do with it? I don’t really invite people to my house. Am I going to go see it myself?” Schauffele wondered. “I don’t want to walk into a trophy room and say ‘Look how great I am.’ I was raised to think that way, and somehow it has stuck.”

Faced with this, the question arises: What decorates the shelves of your home in Florida if not trophies? Schauffele revealed that his wife has hung some photos of him in the gym, including the one of the Olympic medal, but placed them so high that he can’t reach them. He confessed that this bothers him and that, if it were up to him, he would prefer photos of his dogs or, even, nothing at all. Perhaps a watch, as he is often late for appointments. According to Schauffele, Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley has advised him to enjoy his big wins, something he plans to do at some point. However, for now, he prefers to stay focused and keep going.
