Augusta, Georgia – Patrick Reed, after his outstanding performance at the Masters, where he finished in third place, has climbed to the 49th position in the world ranking. This achievement assures him, at a minimum, a place in next month’s PGA Championship.
The PGA Championship, to be held from May 15 to 18 at Quail Hollow, represents the last opportunity for Reed to accumulate important points before the US Open, a tournament that exempts the top 60 players in the world.
Reed’s situation is favorable, as his divisor in the classification formula is at the minimum of 40.
It is worth remembering that Reed failed to qualify for the US Open last year, interrupting a streak of 41 consecutive majors.
In addition, the Open Championship also uses the world ranking, selecting the top 50 on May 18. However, Reed is already qualified for this tournament, thanks to his position among the top three in the International Series Macau of the Asian Tour.
This year, Reed has proven his worth outside the LIV Golf league, accumulating four top 10 finishes in five tournaments. Highlights include his tenth place in Dubai and eighth in Ras Al Khaimah, both on the European Tour, as well as his second place in Macao and the aforementioned third place at the Masters.
Reed’s performance at the Masters, despite his good result, was not without frustrations. The player was self-critical from the first round, calling his game “poor” due to his performance with the putter.
The putter killed me, killed me this week. I really lost the opportunity to win a green jacket because of the putter.

Before his participation in the PGA Championship, Reed will compete in LIV Golf events in Mexico City (April 25-27) and South Korea (May 2-4).
