Patrick Reed Crowned Champion at LIV Golf Dallas After Thrilling Playoff

In a dramatic and suspenseful finish, Patrick Reed claimed victory at the LIV Golf Dallas, securing his first title since joining the Saudi Arabian-backed league in 2022. After a final round full of ups and downs, Reed managed to overcome adversity and seal his triumph with a 15-foot birdie on the first hole of a four-way playoff. Reed, who began the final round with a three-stroke lead, saw his lead vanish in the final stages of the tournament held at Maridoe Golf Club. However, fate had an epic ending in store for him, as Jinichiro Kozuma bogeyed on the 18th hole and then parred his final hole, number 1, for a 68. This led to a tiebreaker with Reed, Louis Oosthuizen (68), and Paul Casey (72). In the first extra hole, Oosthuizen sent his ball into the water and Casey needed four strokes to reach the green of the 18th hole, a par 4. Kozuma missed his 25-foot birdie attempt, setting the stage for Reed’s victory. Reed expressed his relief at getting his first victory in his home state of Texas.

To get my first victory here, as part of LIV, means a lot to me. I tried to mess it up. After making birdie on the first, I seemed to leave all the putts short.

Bryson DeChambeau birdied his last hole, a relevant fact that knocked Jon Rahm out of the top 10 for the first time in LIV Golf. Sergio García, although he was not a determining factor, finishes the week in 5th place in the points ranking, securing the only spot in the British Open for LIV Golf players who are in the top five and who are not yet qualified for Royal Portrush.
