CARROLLTON, Texas – Patrick Reed and Harold Varner III lead the first round of LIV Golf Dallas, after both registering a card of 67 strokes, five under par, at Maridoe Golf Club.
Reed achieved an eagle on hole 2, a 655-yard par 5, as well as four birdies and a bogey. Varner, Reed’s teammate on the 4Aces team, accumulated six birdies and a bogey at the close.
Brooks Koepka withdrew during the round due to an illness. Koepka, in a moment of frustration, hit a tee marker with his driver on the ninth hole.
Jon Rahm was one stroke behind the leaders. Abraham Ancer signed a card of 69 strokes, while Dustin Johnson completed the round with 70 strokes, along with Graeme McDowell, Anirban Lahiri, Richard Bland and David Puig.
Bryson DeChambeau started with a round of 72 strokes. It is worth noting that DeChambeau resides in Dallas and played college golf at SMU.
Joaquín Niemann, points leader and recent winner at LIV Golf Virginia, had a less favorable day, finishing with 78 strokes, including a 10 on the 7th hole, a par 5.
