Jon Rahm Bets on Sergio García as Captain of the European Team in the 2031 Ryder Cup
Spanish golfer Jon Rahm already has in mind who should lead the European team in the 2031 Ryder Cup. Following the announcement that the Camiral Golf Resort in Spain will host the competition, Rahm believes that his compatriot Sergio García is the ideal option to captain the team. The choice of García, according to Rahm, would have a positive impact on the local fans. Rahm highlighted the historic victory of the team led by Seve Ballesteros in 1997 at Valderrama, the only previous time that Spain hosted the Ryder Cup.Sergio García, 45, is one of the most outstanding players in Ryder Cup history. In his ten appearances, from 1999 to 2021, García accumulated a record of 25-13-7 in individual matches, and no one has matched his 28.5 points earned. García could extend his record if current captain Luke Donald selects him for this year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, New York. García commented that he could contribute a lot to the team, although the final decision rests with the captain.I think there’s something to be said about the possibility of having, obviously, a local captain. I think it would do wonders for the public.
