Potgieter and Campbell Secure Their Place in The Open

Two recent victories on the PGA Tour have opened the doors to The Open for Aldrich Potgieter and Brian Campbell. Both golfers qualified for the prestigious tournament that will be held next week at Royal Portrush. The Open field, which originally had 156 players, was reduced to 150 due to qualifying criteria and exemptions. The list of alternates was based on this week’s world ranking. Potgieter, after his victory at the Rocket Classic two weeks ago, was ranked 123rd in the world. Campbell, for his part, won the John Deere Classic on Sunday, positioning himself at number 115.

These triumphs propelled both players high enough in the world rankings to be among the top six not previously exempt for The Open.

In addition to Potgieter and Campbell, Nico Echavarria, Michael Kim, Bud Cauley, and Davis Thompson also joined the field, securing their places. Davis Thompson secured the last spot, narrowly beating Si Woo Kim. The Open will be held from July 17 to 20.
