Segundo Oliva Pinto Shoots Himself at the Latin America Amateur

LIMA, Peru – Argentine golfer Segundo Oliva Pinto starred in a remarkable performance this Saturday, achieving five birdies in eight consecutive holes and finishing with a score of 64 strokes, six under par. This impressive round gives him a one-stroke lead in the Latin America Amateur and positions him as the main contender to secure a spot in three important majors this year. Pinto accumulated seven birdies in his round, allowing him to come back from a seven-stroke deficit and place himself at the top of the leaderboard after 54 holes. The tournament winner secures a place in this year’s Masters, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship.

With a total of 205 strokes, five under par, Pinto leads by one stroke over Eduardo Matarazzo of Brazil, who signed a card of 66, and Andy Schonbaum, the 34-year-old Argentine who has participated in all editions of the tournament except one. Schonbaum, leader after 36 holes, suffered two double bogeys in the second half of the course, finishing with 72 strokes.

Virgilio Paz Valdés from Venezuela also shone with a round of 64 strokes, matching the best score of the week at the Lima Golf Club. He is two strokes off the top, along with Eduardo Derbez from Mexico (66), Mateo Pulcini from Argentina (70) and Erich Fortlage from Paraguay (70). The final round promises to be exciting, with seven players separated by only two strokes.
