In an exciting finish at the British Masters, Rasmus Højgaard secured his place on the European Ryder Cup team, finishing in 13th place, while Alex Norén was crowned champion of the tournament. Højgaard needed a top-29 finish to overtake Shane Lowry in the rankings and secure the final automatic spot. Despite the pressure, Højgaard managed a final round of 71 strokes under par, surpassing Lowry. Norén, for his part, signed a card of 67 strokes, sealing his victory with a bogey putt of 7 feet on the last hole, finishing with 16 under par.

After his round, Højgaard received a call from the European captain, Luke Donald.

So you should be proud of yourself.” Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre and Tyrrell Hatton had already secured the other five automatic spots on Luke Donald’s team, which will defend the Ryder Cup. Lowry now hopes to be one of the six players chosen by the captain to complete the 12-man team. The selections will be announced on September 1st.
