Alex Noren Conquers the BMW PGA Championship in a Dramatic Playoff

In a day marked by rain, Swedish golfer Alex Noren won the BMW PGA Championship, after an exciting playoff on the 18th hole of the Wentworth Club. Noren defeated Frenchman Adrien Saddier, demonstrating once again his skill on the course. The field conditions, softened by the rain, presented challenges for both players in the tiebreaker. Saddier found himself in a bad position off the green, while Noren, after an imprecise shot, managed a crucial birdie from short range to secure the victory.

Today was a struggle. I think he outplayed me from tee to green, but that’s how things go.

This triumph represents Noren’s second victory in the last three European Tour appearances. Previously, he had been crowned champion of the British Masters at The Belfry. With this victory, Noren is expected to climb in the world ranking, demonstrating his excellent form. Furthermore, this achievement propels him towards the Ryder Cup, albeit as vice-captain. Rory McIlroy, with a round of 65 strokes, achieved his best performance of the week and placed 20th. Jon Rahm, for his part, finished in 13th place.

A very good way to close the week, the last competitive round before the Ryder Cup.

The European team, with its 11 players present at Wentworth, is preparing for two days of practice at Bethpage Black before the Ryder Cup, which will be held from September 26 to 28. Aaron Rai and Patrick Reed shared third place, two strokes behind the leader. Both Noren and Saddier finished the round with a 68, starring in a duel in the rain. Both had birdie opportunities, but ended up tied at 19 under par. In the 14th hole, Noren saved par with a 10-foot putt. Saddier, for his part, achieved a birdie on the 17th hole. During the playoff, Noren had a great opportunity. Although he initially thought his shot would go into the water, a good position allowed him a chip that gave him the victory. This triumph marks a notable comeback for Noren, who was affected by a hamstring injury that kept him out of competition for six months. Adrien Saddier, for his part, added his sixth top 10 on the European Tour this year.
