NBC Secures US Open Broadcast Rights Through 2032

In an agreement announced on Tuesday, the USGA has extended its partnership with NBCUniversal, guaranteeing coverage of the US Open until the year 2032. This strategic agreement promises expanded coverage of the prestigious championship, including an additional hour of primetime broadcast during the weekdays. The relationship between NBC and the USGA dates back to 1995, with a brief interruption in 2015 when Fox Sports took over the rights for a 12-year period. However, this agreement only lasted five years before NBC regained coverage. NBC will remain the exclusive broadcaster of the USGA’s three professional events: the US Open, the US Women’s Open, and the US Senior Open. In addition, Peacock, NBC’s streaming platform, will stream all USGA programming and offer exclusive coverage of the US Open and the US Women’s Open. The new agreement will increase US Open coverage to a total of 48 hours. Of these, 25 hours will be broadcast on NBC, with an increase to 33 hours when the US Open is held on the West Coast. The US Women’s Open will have 27 hours of coverage, including seven hours on NBC during the weekend. For its part, the US Senior Open will have 18 hours of broadcast, six of them on NBC. Versant, the new media company that will be spun off from Comcast Corp., has also acquired the broadcast rights to the USGA championships for USA Network and Golf Channel through 2032. USA Network will broadcast the US Open and the US Women’s Open, while the other nine USGA championships will air on Golf Channel.
