Megha Ganne Crowned Champion at the U.S. Women’s Amateur

BANDON, Ore. – Megha Ganne showcased her dominance on the course by defeating Brooke Biermann with a score of 4 and 3, securing her first USGA title at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. Ganne managed to win three consecutive holes against a Biermann who made mistakes, always maintaining an advantageous position. Every time Biermann won a hole in the afternoon, Ganne responded with a birdie, maintaining her 4-up lead and sealing her victory.

Brooke didn’t make it easy for me. She showed a lot of fight. This is probably my last Women’s Amateur, and I really wanted to achieve it.

Ganne, who will begin her final year at Stanford next month, has pursued a USGA title for nearly a decade. In 2019, at just 15 years old, she reached the semifinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur, losing in 19 holes to Albane Valenzuela.

Ganne’s path to the title was full of emotion. In the semi-finals against Ella Scaysbrook, she was 4 down with seven holes to play, but managed to come back and force extra holes, winning with a birdie on the 19th hole. In the final, Ganne was never at a disadvantage. Although both players won three holes each, the match was even until the 11th hole of the morning. Biermann lost the next three holes due to bogeys, and Ganne held firm. Ganne stayed 3 up after 18 holes, and Biermann was never able to get close. Ganne’s performance was impressive, showing great skill and determination.

Megha is a great player. I tried to focus on my own thoughts. Unfortunately, the putter didn’t work today. Overall, I feel like I gave it my best. I had a lot of fun here.

Brooke Biermann
Biermann, who recently finished his college career at Michigan State, struggled to stay in the game. On the 14th hole, he needed a 20-foot putt to cut the deficit to 2 down with four holes to play. However, he missed, which led to Ganne going 4 up. Ganne, with two 15-foot putts for par on the next hole, secured the victory.

I can’t believe I’m standing here right now. I’m not going to lie, I was thinking about this trophy all day.
