Megha Ganne Conquers U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship

BANDON, Ore. – Megha Ganne showcased her dominance by winning three consecutive holes against Brooke Biermann, who made some mistakes, thus securing her first USGA title on Sunday. Ganne clinched the victory at the U.S. Women’s Amateur with a score of 4 and 3. On several occasions, Biermann won a hole in the afternoon, but Ganne responded with a birdie to maintain a 4-up lead, making it evident that victory was near. Biermann, on two occasions, missed the green and conceded holes in the afternoon, failing to put pressure on Ganne.

Brooke didn’t make it easy for me. She showed a lot of fight. This is probably my last Women’s Amateur, and I really wanted to achieve it.

Ganne, who will begin her final year at Stanford next month, has been pursuing a USGA title for nearly a decade. Previously, she reached the semifinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 2019, at age 15, losing in 19 holes against Albane Valenzuela. His path to victory at Bandon Dunes was close to not materializing.

Ganne was 4 down with seven holes to play in the semi-finals against Ella Scaysbrook. However, he managed to come back, forcing extra holes and winning with a birdie on the 19th hole. The final wasn’t very exciting. Ganne was never at a disadvantage, although each player won three holes. The match was even until the 11th hole in the morning. Biermann lost the following three holes with bogeys, unable to recover. Ganne achieved a 3-up lead after 18 holes, and Biermann never got close.

Megha is a great player. I tried to focus on my thoughts. Unfortunately, the putter didn’t work today. Overall, I feel like I gave it my best. I had a lot of fun here.

Brooke Biermann
Biermann, who just finished his college career at Michigan State, struggled to stay in the game. On the 14th hole, he had a 20-foot putt from the edge of the green, which he needed to make to cut the deficit to 2 down with four holes to play. But Biermann’s shot was short, missing the next putt and going 4 down with four holes to play. Ganne, for his part, made two putts from 15 feet for par on the next hole and closed out the match.

I can’t believe I’m here right now. I’m not going to lie, I was thinking about this trophy all day.
