McIlroy Seeks Inspiration from Djokovic for the Ryder Cup

Rory McIlroy, after observing how Novak Djokovic handled the spectators at the US Open, is preparing to apply the same strategy at the upcoming Ryder Cup, which will be held in the United States. The European team, led by McIlroy, will face a passionate local fanbase at Bethpage Black from September 26 to 28. The Americans will seek to regain the cup after the defeat in Rome two years ago. Djokovic demonstrated his ability to deal with hostile environments during his US Open quarterfinal match.

He’s been the best at handling that. He’s had to deal with it his whole life, whether playing against an American in New York or against Roger Federer or Rafa Nadal.

McIlroy
McIlroy was inspired by Djokovic, who previously gave a motivational talk to the European team before their victory at the 2023 Ryder Cup, sharing advice on how to handle pressure. The experience from Rome will be valuable for the European team, which only presents one change in its lineup. Rasmus Hojgaard, the only rookie, automatically qualified for the 12-player team. McIlroy highlighted the progress of Robert MacIntyre, a rookie in Rome, as an example of the team’s growth. He believes Europe has a “wonderful opportunity” to win the Ryder Cup away from home for the first time since 2012. McIlroy acknowledges the strength of the American team and the support of their fans, but trusts in the preparation of the European team.
