Rory McIlroy: The Fracture in Golf Persists

Professional golf faces an uncertain future, according to statements by renowned golfer Rory McIlroy. The division generated by the LIV Golf league, with its “irrational” investment, has created a gap difficult to overcome. The hope of reunification, raised after the merger proposal, seems to be fading. Despite the time that has passed since this union was suggested, the parties involved have not managed to come closer to an agreement.

“I think for golf in general it would be better if there was a unification. But I think with what has happened in recent years, it’s going to be very difficult to achieve,” commented McIlroy.

The golfer points out that, after years of investment, results have still not been seen, and more resources will be required to maintain the current situation. Many players’ contracts are expiring, which could generate demands for higher figures. LIV Golf has invested billions of dollars, and it is anticipated that a similar investment will be required to maintain its position. Bryson DeChambeau, LIV golfer, agrees that the positions are very far apart. Although he wants a significant change, he does not foresee it in the near future. He believes that both sides have too many demands and few concessions, which makes an agreement difficult.

“We are too far apart on many things. It will take time, but I think the game of golf will grow internationally,” DeChambeau said.
