Rory McIlroy Seeks to Regain Rhythm in Golf
After a weekend at the U.S. Open, Rory McIlroy, the world’s number 2 golfer, expressed his relief at finishing and the need for a rest. With a performance that did not meet his expectations, McIlroy is now focusing on his return to Europe and regaining his best form. McIlroy completed his final round in less than four and a half hours, a goal he had set for himself. Although he achieved a good performance in the final round, the golfer admitted that he hasn’t been playing with the same inspiration since he won the Masters.McIlroy has struggled in recent tournaments, including the RBC Canadian Open and the PGA Championship. His performance at the U.S. Open reflected this trend, with moments of evident frustration on the course. The next goal for McIlroy is the Open Championship at Portrush, a tournament he considers an opportunity to align his mental and physical game. In 2019, on the same course, he failed to make the cut, but this time he hopes to be better prepared.“I summited my Everest in April, and I think after doing something like that, you have to come back down and look for another mountain to climb.”

Despite acknowledging that his physical game is in good shape, McIlroy admitted that he has struggled mentally. His frustration was visible during the U.S. Open, where he even threw clubs on two occasions. McIlroy hopes a break at home will help him recharge and regain his mental focus. Although he has had just over a month to prepare for the tournament at Portrush, the final round at Oakmont gave him a positive boost. In the final round, he achieved six birdies and only three bogeys, improving his overall performance. Furthermore, he led the field in average driving distance, demonstrating his strength in the game.“I need to get in the right mindset to feel those sensations again.”
