McIlroy Impressed with His Performance at the Scottish Open, Ready for the Open Championship

Rory McIlroy expressed his satisfaction after his outstanding performance at the Scottish Open, where he finished in second place, surpassed by Chris Gotterup. The golfer, who is seeking his best form, feels optimistic about the Open Championship that will be held this week at Royal Portrush. McIlroy, who was looking to become the first player to win the Masters and the Scottish Open in the same season, tied for second place with Marco Penge, two strokes behind Gotterup.

“I’m very happy with everything,” McIlroy told reporters on Sunday. “I’m really looking forward to getting to Portrush tonight and getting out on the golf course early tomorrow and focusing my attention on that.”

After achieving the career Grand Slam at the Masters in April, the 36-year-old McIlroy has struggled to reach his best form. The world number 2 commented in June that he hadn’t anticipated how complicated it would be to maintain motivation after winning the Masters title. However, after a solid performance last weekend in North Berwick, the five-time major champion stated that he is now fully focused on the Open.

“I’m very happy with my game, the way I played over the weekend, the shots I hit, how I controlled the flight of the ball,” McIlroy said. “It’s been a great week. The only thing I regret is not having won the trophy.”
