Arkansas Golf Tournament Suspended Due to Adverse Weather

ROGERS, Ark. – The second round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship on the LPGA Tour was interrupted on Saturday due to heavy rain and dangerous weather conditions, generating uncertainty about the possibility of completing the event. The tournament, which is already the shortest on the calendar with 54 holes, could face a prolonged day or more waiting time. Due to the heavy rainfall, no player managed to complete more than three holes. The LPGA announced that it will decide on Sunday morning whether the Pinnacle Country Club is playable. If so, the second round will resume at 7:10 a.m. CDT. Sarah Schmelzel and Minami Katsu lead the competition with a score of 8 under par. Alison Lee, who is participating in her third tournament since returning after giving birth to her son at the end of April, got a birdie and joined them at the top with 8 under par before play was stopped. The LPGA will announce before the resumption of the second round whether the tournament will be reduced to 36 holes or if it will attempt to complete the scheduled 54 holes. There are no LPGA events next week. Stacy Lewis shot the best score at the inaugural tournament in 2007, when she was an amateur, but rain shortened the competition to 18 holes, so it was not considered official.
