Arkansas Golf Tournament Suspended Due to Adverse Weather

Rogers, Arkansas – The second round of the LPGA Tour’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship was interrupted on Saturday due to heavy rain and dangerous weather conditions, generating uncertainty about the possibility of completing the event. The tournament, already the shortest on the calendar with 54 holes, could face a prolonged day or a considerable wait. Due to heavy rainfall, no player was able to complete more than three holes. The LPGA announced that it will assess the condition of Pinnacle Country Club on Sunday morning to determine if it is playable. The resumption of the second round is scheduled for 7:10 a.m. CDT. Sarah Schmelzel and Minami Katsu were tied at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 8 under par. Alison Lee, who is participating in her third tournament after her return after giving birth to her son at the end of April, achieved a birdie and joined the leaders with a score of 8 under par before play was stopped. The LPGA will make a decision before the resumption of the second round on whether the tournament will be reduced to 36 holes or if it will try to complete the scheduled 54 holes. Next week, the LPGA Tour has no scheduled events. Stacy Lewis led the inaugural tournament in 2007 when she was an amateur, but rain forced the event to be reduced to 18 holes, so it was not considered official.
