Adverse Weather Halts LPGA Walmart NW Arkansas Championship

Rogers, Arkansas – The second round of the LPGA Walmart NW Arkansas Championship was forced to suspend on Saturday due to heavy rain and dangerous weather conditions, even before the golfers could start their participation. This has generated uncertainty about the possibility of completing the event.

The tournament, already the shortest on the calendar with 54 holes, could face a long wait or even more interruptions.

Due to the rain, no player managed to complete more than three holes. The LPGA announced that it will be decided on Sunday morning whether Pinnacle Country Club is playable, and the second round will resume at 7:10 a.m. CDT.

Sarah Schmelzel and Minami Katsu lead the leaderboard with a score of 8 under par. Alison Lee, who is participating in her third tournament since returning after giving birth to her son at the end of April, achieved a birdie and joined the leaders at 8 under par before play was stopped.

The LPGA will announce before the resumption of the second round whether the tournament will be reduced to 36 holes or if they will try to complete the 54 holes. Next week, the LPGA has no tournaments scheduled.

In the inaugural tournament of 2007, Stacy Lewis, in her amateur stage, obtained the best score, but the rain reduced the event to 18 holes, so it was not considered official.
