CRANS MONTANA, Switzerland – Thriston Lawrence, a South African golfer, achieved a remarkable comeback at the European Masters held in Switzerland, securing his fifth title on the European circuit.
After a complicated start with bogey on the first three holes, Lawrence signed a card of 66 strokes (-4) on Sunday, which earned him the victory.
Lawrence beat Matt Wallace (67), Sami Välimäki (65) and Rasmus Højgaard (62) by two strokes.
Matt Fitzpatrick, who is seeking to be selected by Luke Donald for the European Ryder Cup team, finished alone in fifth place, one stroke away, after a round of 67.
Lawrence, currently ranked 94th in the world, recovered from an imprecise start. He highlighted his eagle on the 6th hole, thanks to a 20-foot putt, and added five more birdies at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club.
His most recent victory was at the BMW International Open in June 2023.
