Nelly Korda Dominates the Ford Championship with an Impeccable Performance

In the challenging Cattail golf course, Nelly Korda demonstrated her skill by recording an impressive 65, seven under par, during the second round of the Ford Championship. This outstanding performance not only secured her the best 36-hole score of her LPGA Tour career, but also positioned her at the top of the leaderboard with a two-stroke lead. Despite a small stumble by missing a birdie putt on the 17th hole, Korda remained calm and continued her solid game, characterized by a constant series of birdie opportunities and precise execution with the putter.

“I’m playing really solid golf, and when I make a mistake, I try not to let it affect me too much,” Korda commented.

With a total of 16 under par, Korda is two strokes ahead of Hyo Joo Kim, the defending champion in Phoenix. Kim, who won the Founders Cup the previous week, seeks to maintain her good form. The friendly rivalry between Korda and Kim promises an exciting showdown in the upcoming rounds, as they will play together for the fourth consecutive time.

“We’re already getting tired of each other,” Korda joked, highlighting the quality of Kim’s game and the motivation that competing at that level generates for her.

Lydia Ko, for her part, although she had an outstanding performance in the first round, failed to maintain the same pace, finishing with a 71 and remaining three strokes behind the leader, along with Jenny Bae and Minami Katsu. Asterisk Talley, the 17-year-old amateur, also had an outstanding performance with a 65, placing six strokes from the top. The competition at the Ford Championship has been intense, with a cut set at 5 under par. Among the players who failed to make the cut are Miyu Yamashita and Lexi Thompson, who was making her season debut. Korda, after winning the inaugural tournament of the season in Florida, seeks to consolidate her dominance at the Ford Championship.
