Nelly Korda Competes in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Despite Injury

Nelly Korda, the world’s number one golfer, participated in the first round of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship this Thursday, achieving a result of par 72. This occurred just three days after suffering a re-aggravation of a neck injury during a practice.

Despite not feeling pain when hitting the ball, Korda admitted to feeling discomfort when rotating her neck and difficulties sleeping comfortably. “It’s getting better, every day. When I injure my neck, it takes a little longer to recover,” Korda commented.

Something similar happened to me before playing with Ariya Jutanugarn in Las Vegas this year, one night I couldn’t move, but fortunately it wasn’t as serious as that day… It takes me a week to recover when this happens to my neck.

Korda had already had to withdraw from two tournaments in Asia last year due to a similar injury. In the first round of the championship, Korda achieved two birdies and two bogeys, finishing four strokes behind the leader, Jeeno Thitikul. Korda described the game conditions as windy and hot, but she was satisfied with her performance. “I am happy with my position. Honestly, I haven’t even looked at the leaderboard,” she added. In the 7th hole, Korda hit a 294-yard drive. On the 8th hole, her tee shot went over the green, resulting in a bogey. On the 9th hole, she achieved a birdie after a good recovery. Korda explained that it was good to recover with a birdie and start again in the next round.
