Justin Rose Conquers the FedEx St. Jude Championship in an Exciting Playoff

In a day full of emotions and unexpected twists, Justin Rose won the FedEx St. Jude Championship, after overcoming a three-stroke deficit over Tommy Fleetwood and beating J.J. Spaun in a thrilling playoff. Rose, demonstrating his quality once again, delivered a card of 67 strokes (-3) in the final round, securing his triumph and his return to the world’s top 10 at the age of 45. This victory, the 24th of his career, also guarantees him a place in the next Ryder Cup. Rose’s performance was impressive, with four consecutive birdies and six in the last eight holes played. In the tiebreaker, he demonstrated his composure by achieving two crucial birdies, thus sealing his victory.

“It was an incredible final 90 minutes. I played incredible golf down the stretch. When I play at my best, I know I’m good enough to compete and win against the best in the world. A very rewarding day for me,” Rose declared.

Spaun, for his part, did not fall behind, showing great determination. He achieved a 20-foot birdie on the 17th hole to temporarily tie for the lead and finished with a score of 65 strokes. However, Rose prevailed in the tiebreaker. The tournament also left a bittersweet taste for Tommy Fleetwood, who was close to victory. Despite a good performance, mistakes at key moments prevented him from achieving his triumph. Fleetwood finished one stroke off the playoff, sharing the position with Scottie Scheffler, who had an outstanding performance. In Fleetwood’s words: “There are many positive aspects that I can highlight, although I don’t feel that way right now. I will analyze what I think I could have done and how close I was. All these experiences and these close finishes, as I say, there’s no point in letting them have a negative effect on what happens next. What would be the point? It was a great week. I did a lot of good things and, as disappointed as I am, I have to try to find the strength to turn it all into a positive experience and, hopefully, try again next time.”

“An amazing last 90 minutes,” Justin Rose said. “I played unbelievable golf down the stretch. When I bring my best, I know I’m good enough to play and to compete, and to now win against the best players in the world. Very gratifying day for me.”
Other players also had reasons to celebrate. Bud Cauley secured his place in the second round of the FedEx Cup playoffs, while Rickie Fowler, Kurt Kitayama, Jhonattan Vegas, and J.T. Poston advanced to the BMW Championship. The competition was intense, with several players fighting to secure their place in the most important events of next year. Jordan Spieth, Chris Kirk and other players experienced moments of tension, but ultimately failed to advance in the rankings. The tournament culminated with Rose demonstrating her quality and experience, sealing her victory with impeccable play in the final holes.
