Ben Griffin Leads the Procore Championship with Scheffler and Koivun Breathing Down His Neck

NAPA, Calif. – Ben Griffin maintains his lead at the Procore Championship with a one-stroke advantage, facing unprecedented pressure on the PGA Tour. Two world-renowned players, Jackson Koivun and Scottie Scheffler, are closely pursuing him. Koivun, the outstanding world number one amateur, has already secured his PGA Tour card once he turns professional. On the other hand, Scheffler, the undisputed number one in golf, demonstrated his skill by achieving an impressive 64 despite a double bogey on Saturday. Griffin, with a total of 16 under par (200), suffered his first bogey of the tournament on the last hole, settling for a 70, which reduced his lead over Koivun and Scheffler.

“He has shown a lot here on the tour even though he is still in college,” Griffin said of Koivun.

Griffin also highlighted Koivun’s ability to compete with Scheffler. “I have to focus on myself, stay aggressive and try to make a lot of birdies tomorrow and not have to worry about anyone,” he added. Expectation is high, with a record crowd since the tournament moved to Napa in 2014. Scheffler, who started the round eight strokes behind Griffin, had a remarkable performance, achieving three birdies in his last four holes. Koivun, for his part, had an irregular start, but recovered with birdies and an eagle on the 12th hole, staying in contention.

“I didn’t get off to a good start, not the one I was looking for, but I was able to turn it around mid-round, make some birdies, make some putts, change the script and stay in contention,” Koivun commented.

Koivun has the opportunity to become the second amateur to win a PGA Tour tournament in recent years. Griffin, although he didn’t achieve as many birdies as in the initial round, held firm until the 18th hole. Despite a final bogey, he appeared confident.

“I’m not too worried about what he’s going to do. I just have to play better than him. And if I do that tomorrow, I should be able to lift the trophy,” Griffin concluded.
