At the Memorial, Ben Griffin showcased his excellent form, solidifying his recent PGA Tour victory with an outstanding performance. Despite some setbacks, he achieved an impressive round of 7 under par, 65 strokes, on a course known for its difficulty.

Griffin Leads the Memorial

Griffin, after his triumph at Colonial, maintained his aggressive game, achieving birdies and an eagle on the 7th hole. His performance placed him at the top of the leaderboard, surpassing Collin Morikawa by two strokes, while Max Homa was positioned one stroke away.

The defending champion, Scottie Scheffler, although he didn’t have his best day, achieved a respectable round of 70 strokes, extending his streak of sub-par openings to 19 consecutive tournaments.

Griffin’s round was marked by two balls in the water, on holes 11 and 12, which resulted in bogeys. However, he managed to recover with birdies on holes 16, 17 and 18, demonstrating a great capacity for recovery and concentration.

It was an incredible day. I stayed aggressive and took advantage of birdie opportunities.

Muirfield Village, with favorable conditions due to the rain, allowed for good scores for those who kept their shots in the fairway. However, the demands of the course were evident in the results, with only 13 players breaking par and several suffering triple bogeys.

Shane Lowry, who played alongside Griffin, signed a card of 69 strokes. Homa, for his part, seeks to regain his best form, while Nick Taylor and Scheffler also had outstanding performances. Scheffler, despite not having his best game, managed to maintain a good score, demonstrating his ability to compete even when he is not at his best. Other players, such as Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger, had difficult rounds, while Adam Scott had a complicated start, but managed to recover in the second half of the course.
