Greyserman Seeks Revenge in Japan: Leads the Baycurrent Classic

YOKOHAMA, Japan – Max Greyserman is looking for his first PGA Tour victory, after finishing one stroke behind the winner last year in Japan.Greyserman shot a 63, eight-under-par, on Friday, accumulating a total of 12-under-par through two rounds and securing a four-stroke lead at the Baycurrent Classic.His closest pursuers are Alex Smalley (65), Xander Schauffele (63) and Alex Noren (65).This tournament is the only PGA Tour event held in Japan. This year, the competition moved to Yokohama, after having been held east of Tokyo. The tournament debuted in 2019, with Tiger Woods as champion.

I’ve been doing things right this week from the start and I just need to keep doing what I’m doing.

When asked if he had gained followers after his outstanding performance the previous year, where he lost on the 72nd hole to Nico Echavarria, Greyserman replied:

I imagine some of these people were here last year and I’m sure they remember me.

Schauffele, who had a round of 71 strokes, par, on Thursday, commented on the course conditions.

Yesterday it seemed like you were just trying to survive the round and, at times, there was almost no wind today. The greens were rolling pretty well and the wind had died down. If you’re hitting good shots, you’re being rewarded for them, so I was able to take a lot of advantage of that.

Four other players are five strokes behind the leader, including the defending champion, Echavarria.Kazuki Higa, from Japan, had an impressive first round of eight under par in his first nine holes on Friday, with eight birdies, although he couldn’t keep up the pace in the second half and finished with 64 strokes, six strokes behind the lead.Collin Morikawa, who was part of the American Ryder Cup team alongside Schauffele, signed a card of 68 strokes, three under par, on Friday, placing himself nine strokes behind the leader at the Yokohama Country Club.
