Greyserman, Cauley, and Campbell Lead the Baycurrent Classic in Japan
In an inaugural day marked by the wind, Americans Max Greyserman, Bud Cauley, and Brian Campbell positioned themselves at the top of the leaderboard of the Baycurrent Classic in Japan, after signing cards of 67 strokes (-4). The tournament, which this year moves to the Yokohama Country Club, is the only PGA Tour event held in Japan. A group of eight players were one stroke behind the leaders, including Australian Adam Scott. Another seven competitors were two strokes off the top. Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa, members of the American team that suffered a defeat in the Ryder Cup, finished the round with a par of 71 strokes. The defending champion, Nico Echavarria of Colombia, completed the day with 70 strokes. Hideki Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters champion, signed a card of 72 strokes in the first round. Greyserman, who was the runner-up last year, losing by one stroke to Echavarria on the 72nd hole, expressed his enthusiasm for competing in Japan.Greyserman described the first round as “very, very difficult” due to the strong winds.
