Doug Ghim and Davis Thompson Tie for the Lead at the RSM Classic
In a day marked by favorable weather conditions, Doug Ghim was on the verge of achieving an impressive 59, but settled for an extraordinary 60, tying the Seaside course record at the RSM Classic. This performance puts Ghim in a favorable position to secure his PGA Tour card. Davis Thompson, whose father is the tournament director, Todd Thompson, and Rico Hoey also shone with a 62 on the Plantation course, used for the first two rounds. Both players demonstrated consistent play, placing themselves at the top of the leaderboard. Andrew Putnam, for his part, was close to a score below 60, finishing with a 61 at Seaside. Andrew Novak, who returns to competition after the Tour Championship in August and the birth of his son, also achieved a 61. The Seaside course, known for being more demanding due to the wind, proved accessible thanks to the ideal weather conditions. Ghim, with a series of consecutive birdies, was close to sinking a putt for birdie on the 18th hole.Ghim’s performance is crucial, given that only the top 100 of the FedEx Cup will retain their full status for 2026. Putnam, who is in 119th place, is also looking to secure his spot. Novak, after a standout year, including a victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, aims to maintain his good form. Novak, who hadn’t played since August, expressed his satisfaction with his performance after the birth of his son. Hoey, for his part, managed to sink an impressive 45-foot eagle putt on the 14th hole of the Plantation. Davis Love III, the tournament host, completed the day with a 71. The average score in Seaside was 67.8, while in Plantation it was 68.5. Johnny Keefer, who secured his card after leading the Korn Ferry Tour, is looking for a good result to move up in the world ranking and aspire to participate in the Masters.
