Doug Ghim nears the record at the RSM Classic
In a round marked by low scores and favorable weather, Doug Ghim was close to achieving a 59, but settled for a tie for the Seaside course record at Sea Island. His performance at the RSM Classic significantly boosted his goal of keeping his PGA Tour card. Davis Thompson and Rico Hoey also shone with 10 under par, each with a 62 on the Plantation course, which hosted the first two rounds. Andrew Putnam was close to a round under 60, but finished with two pars for a 61, nine under par, at the Seaside course. Andrew Novak matched this result, playing for the first time since the Tour Championship and after becoming a father. The Seaside course, known for being more challenging due to the wind, offered ideal conditions for low scores that day. Ghim chained four consecutive birdies and was close to a birdie on the 18th hole.Ghim, who entered the tournament in 125th place, needed a good start to secure his place. Putnam finished in 119th place. The other three players in the top five are already secure for next year. Novak had a great year by winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside Ben Griffin, which allowed him to reach the Tour Championship for the first time. Hoey managed to hit all the greens for the first time and a 45-foot eagle putt on the 14th hole of the Plantation. Johnny Keefer, who led the Korn Ferry Tour this year, made seven birdies in his last 10 holes for a 65 at Seaside. Takumi Kanaya of Japan, made bogey on his last two holes for a 68.I thought I had made it halfway and in the end that’s all I can really do. I am pleased to have the opportunity.
Doug Ghim
