Megha Ganne advances to the U.S. Women’s Amateur final

In an exciting day of golf, Megha Ganne achieved an impressive comeback to secure her place in the final of the U.S. Women’s Amateur. The competition, full of unexpected twists, kept the spectators on the edge of their seats.

Ganne, who was four holes down with seven to play, demonstrated her tenacity by winning in 19 holes against her opponent. Her exceptional performance led her to the long-awaited final, where she will face Brooke Biermann.

On the other hand, Biermann also experienced moments of tension. Despite having a three-hole lead with three to play, her rival, Lyla Louderbaugh, managed to tie the score. However, in the first playoff hole, Louderbaugh struggled, allowing Biermann to advance.

Ganne, ranked number 11 in the women’s amateur ranking, faced a significant challenge against Ella Scaysbrook of Australia. Scaysbrook got four holes up after an impressive birdie putt. However, Ganne reacted with determination, cutting the distance and finally tying the match.

The 19th hole proved decisive, with Scaysbrook having problems on the green. Ganne, for his part, executed an excellent shot that secured him the birdie and the victory.

Ganne, a Stanford senior, will seek her first USGA title. She had already reached the semifinals at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur and stood out at the Olympic Club in 2021, where she earned amateur honors.

Biermann, recently graduated from Michigan State University, plans to turn professional after the U.S. Women’s Amateur. The winner of the tournament will earn a spot in next year’s U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera.

Biermann demonstrated his experience by winning three matches that went to extra holes. His path to the final included a 22-hole victory in the second round and another in 19 holes in the round of 16.
