Tommy Fleetwood Conquers the India Championship with a Spectacular Comeback

In a display of exceptional play, Tommy Fleetwood capped off a golden season with a resounding victory at the India Championship. The English golfer signed a card of 65 strokes, seven under par, to secure the triumph by two strokes. Fleetwood, who had already celebrated previous successes in recent months, including the FedEx Cup title and an outstanding performance in the Ryder Cup, added this new achievement to his impressive record. This victory represents his first triumph on the European circuit of the year. Keita Nakajima, who started the final round with a two-stroke lead, couldn’t keep up with Fleetwood’s overwhelming game. The latter starred in a streak of four consecutive birdies, starting at hole 7, which allowed him to reverse the situation and take the lead.

“I feel that, despite all the good that has happened this year, some things have disappointed me,” Fleetwood stated. “Another victory, it feels great.”

Tommy FleetwoodDespite his successes on the PGA Tour, Fleetwood was not eligible for the final two events on the European schedule. However, this victory catapulted him from 94th to 25th in the Race to Dubai, guaranteeing his participation in the Abu Dhabi Championship and the Tour Championship in Dubai. An emotional moment for Fleetwood was the celebration with his 8-year-old son, Frankie, who ran onto the 18th hole green to congratulate him. Fleetwood revealed that his son had expressed his desire to see him win a tournament where he could celebrate with him on the course. Nakajima, for his part, had difficulties with precision off the tee down the stretch, but managed to stay competitive thanks to his putts. He finished with a card of 69 strokes, which allowed him to move up in the ranking of European Tour players eligible to obtain PGA Tour cards next year. Shane Lowry, Thriston Lawrence, and Alex Fitzpatrick shared third place with a total of 270 strokes. Rory McIlroy, in his first participation in India, finished in 26th place, eleven strokes behind the winner, after a round of 71 strokes.
