Tommy Fleetwood leads the DP World India Championship

The golfer Tommy Fleetwood has maintained his excellent performance this season by recording an impressive round of 64 strokes, eight under par. This gives him a one-stroke lead at the halfway point of the DP World India Championship, while his Ryder Cup teammate, Rory McIlroy, struggles to stay in contention. In the last two months, Fleetwood has achieved a victory at the Tour Championship, obtaining his first PGA Tour title and taking home 10 million dollars as FedEx Cup champion. In addition, he was the top scorer in points at the Ryder Cup, which was retained by the European team. Currently ranked number 5 in the world, the Englishman leads possibly the most prestigious golf tournament ever held in India. He achieved eight birdies without making any mistakes in the second round, bringing him to a total of 12 under par for the week. Fleetwood’s final birdie, from 8 feet on the 9th hole, gave him a lead over former Open champions Shane Lowry (69) and Brian Harman (65), who share second place.

The course at the Delhi Golf Club, with its trees and narrow fairways, presents a unique challenge for all of us.

Tommy Fleetwood
Fleetwood added that the course is a test of patience and that the game is based on waiting. He pointed out that, even if a good shot is achieved from the tee, there is always the possibility of making a mistake. Ben Griffin, a rookie on the U.S. Ryder Cup team, is three strokes back, tied for seventh place at 8 under par. McIlroy, who again did not use his driver, suffered consecutive bogeys at the beginning of his second round, but reacted with birdies on four of the last six holes, achieving a second consecutive 69. He is at 6 under par, along with Viktor Hovland (67), a member of the European team. Upon leaving the 18th hole at the Delhi Golf Club, McIlroy, world number 2, took off his cap and greeted Sachin Tendulkar, Indian cricket legend and special guest of the tournament, at the back of the green.

I had a strong finish, I managed to get back into the tournament. I need a good start tomorrow.

Rory McIlroy
When asked if he would change his strategy from the tee to be more aggressive and catch up to Fleetwood, McIlroy responded that he would not, as he has not had success with his 2-iron. He will maintain the same strategy and seek to improve his second shots and putts.
